On January 13th PBIS rewarded students in grades 6-12 who did not receive any office referrals or detentions. Students received a ticket to redeem for a snow cone.
On Monday, January 16, the following Seneca East students attended the S.O.A.R (Students Organized & Advocating Regionally) Leadership Training at Grace Community Church in Fremont, Ohio: Brooke Cessna (gr.10 ), Matt Chappell (gr. 8), Allison Drown (gr.11), Courtney Heiser (gr.11 ), Halle Rotruck (gr.10 ), and Mykah Vogt (gr.10).
The day began with students from Seneca East, Fremont Ross, Genoa, and Liberty Benton schools introducing themselves to each other with Icebreaker activities. Discussions and activities throughout the day included Personality Types, What is a Leader?, What leader type are you?, Where do we go from here?, and Are you a follower or a leader? Guest speakers at the training included Trooper Matt Davis from the Ohio State Highway Patrol to discuss the program “5 Minutes for Life”, and the importance of being a leader and to help spread the word to their school and community about the heroin and painkiller epidemic in our state. It is important to inform their peers about the dangers and consequences of alcohol and drugs and to share available resources for help when needed. Also presenting was Sandusky County Probation Officer Amanda Mitchell to discuss Flash Judgments. The students completed an activity based on pictures and found how it is very easy to make quick judgments on people based on looks. They learned that someone you think that looks “put together” could have a drug problem. The students enjoyed pizza, chips, and dessert for lunch and were given a chance to play a team building game in the gym.
Thank you to Kelly Garza (and her family), Charla Van Osdol, Jamie Belcher, and Albri from Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services for inviting us to this event.
