High School/Middle School Awards Program

The Seneca East High School Awards Program is slated for Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00 p.m.  At the awards program, Seneca East students will be recognized for their academic achievements and for improvement in each of our subject areas.  Also, to cap off this evening, seniors will be receiving various scholarships offered by local and regional sponsors as well as by the military and colleges/universities that our students have chosen to attend.  It’s going to be a great evening of recognition of our students who have worked extremely hard to do the best that they can in school and who have done the best they can to prepare themselves for their future.  The middle school academic awards program will also be hosted at the school on Monday, May 18th at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Teacher-Based Team Meetings

In our core areas at Seneca East, teacher-based teams, divided by department (grades 5 - 12), have been meeting regularly before school to examine a number of things that will help in assisting student achievement levels (social studies, science, language arts, and math). Every year, scores from the ACT, OAA and OGT show not just the strengths and weaknesses of the class but also of individual students as well. Teachers in this TBT (teacher-based team) process looked at class, period, and individual data and analyzed just where our students were in greatest need. Based on their findings, teachers then brainstormed action plans to attack weaknesses and build on strengths that they found and began inserting these plans into their daily, weekly, and unit lessons. Currently, the teams continue to work on strengths and weaknesses with the students in their classes and are also reflecting on the efficiency and effectiveness of the instituted plans. Using our own research over the past two years, this type of calculated examination of scores and action plan development has allowed us to close gaps in weaker subscores within the OAA and OGT; consequently, our students are the winners. Student strengths have been identified and augmented throughout the year while student weaknesses have been identified giving teachers the knowledge on where increases in work and curriculum have to be done.

Jazz Band to Hit the Ritz and Jam and Bread

Seneca East’s Jazz Band is a group of dedicated musicians who will be performing twice this month and twice in May. Since this is not a “class” offered at S.E., students who take part come in to practice after school (before Spring sports started) and at 7:00 a.m. since. The Seneca East Jazz Band will be performing at The Ritz Theater in Tiffin on April 16th and at the Jam and Bread celebration at the Attica United Methodist Church on April 26th at 6:45 p.m. Future dates include playing for the teachers on Teacher Appreciation Day (May 5th) on the front lawn of the school (at approximately 7:30 a.m.) and in the Spring Concert at Seneca East on May 17th starting at 1:30 p.m. If you get a chance, come out and support these young musicians as they perform.
